Energy and climate plan Luxembourg
Scientific advice on the 2030 energy and climate strategy of Luxemburg and assistance on drafting the national integrated energy and climate plan for the period 2021 to 2030 for the implementation of the energy union
Luxembourg Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure
Laufzeit July 2017 – January 2019
A climate and energy strategy is currently being developed in Luxembourg for the period 2021 to 2030. A consortium of IREES, Fraunhofer ISI and the EEG of the TU Vienna has been commissioned to provide the Luxembourg Ministry of Economics and the Ministry for Sustainable Development and Infrastructures with scientific advice on the development of its national strategy. The core of the consulting services is the analysis of the impact of various development paths by 2030 on energy efficiency (RE) and the use of renewable energy sources (RES) on costs and emissions. Therefore, six different scenarios with concrete renewable energy saving and RES expansion targets are designed.
The starting point for Luxembourg are binding renewable energy, RES and emission reduction targets for 2020, and it is assumed that Luxembourg and the European Union will achieve their self-imposed targets en bloc by 2020. In addition, expansion paths are modeled until 2030. To achieve its objectives, Luxembourg can rely on national measures or, optionally, on cooperation mechanisms at EU level.
