Filling the gaps in heat planning: Solutions for three Munich neighbourhoods

Filling the gaps in heat planning: IREES and e-think energy research have developed concepts for renewable heat supply in three designated review areas of the City of Munich. The approach can be transferred to other review areas.

After the first municipal heat plan, it remained unclear how the neighbourhoods Münchner Freiheit, Südliches Schloßrondell and Hochleite/Theodolindenplatz could be supplied with renewable heat in the future. To answer this, we:

  • assessed the suitability of different types of heat pumps, including an extended site analysis,
  • examined several possible local heating networks, covering heat sources, generation site and pipeline route for each network,
  • involved local stakeholders from all three neighbourhoods in six workshops, including property owners, tenants and district committees.

All results are available in the final report (PDF, German).
