The business unit Social Scientific Evaluation focuses on people with their social environment and their various roles in the energy system. Using empirical methods, the business unit investigates the behavioural patterns of selected actors with regard to investment decisions for energy efficiency measures and renewable energies as well as behavioural decisions on energy use. Our research and project work focus on:

  • the investigation of the acceptance of innovative energy technologies in the heat and electricity sector, by different social groups

  • the evaluation of research and funding programmes at national and European level, for example for building refurbishment or energy consulting services,

  • the analysis and development of policy instruments to achieve climate protection considering heterogeneous decision criteria and barriers of different stakeholders,

  • the support and facilitation of energy efficiency networks between companies,

  • analyses of users’ satisfaction in buildings and neighbourhoods and

  • the organisation of participation process in energy and climate protection projects in the neighbourhood
