Brown Bag Talk at IREES: How Politicians Underestimate Support for Climate Action
Luisa Hostlowsky and Timur Sevincer joined the IREES GmbH Brown Bag Talk with an important question: What do politicians think the public thinks about climate action? Their findings are as revealing as they are consequential:
👥 We all underestimate how much public support there is for climate action
🏛️ Politicians, however, underestimate actual support even more
🎯 Especially for the most effective instruments – taxation and regulation – politicians underestimate how high public acceptance would be
The two researchers from Leuphana University of Lüneburg and Københavns Universitet – University of Copenhagen presented their study (link in the comments) as part of the Brown Bag Lunch lecture series at IREES GmbH. The results are highly relevant to our work with politicians and administrative bodies at the municipal, state and federal levels.
A little bonus connection: Just as Luisa Hostlowsky developed this study as a student working with Timur Sevincer, our colleague Sophie Lohmann, PhD started her career in 2013 as a student research assistant for Timur Sevincer.
We’re delighted about this connection and the fascinating research insights!
