The strategy aims at supporting companies regarding a reliable and sustainable supply with raw materials. For example, electromobility could be a major driver of increased demand for critical raw materials. However, a holistic sustainability strategy must consider supply chain management as well as corporate social responsibility approaches to ensure all stakeholders can benefit from technology innovation. And it should not be forgotten that material related measures, such as material efficiency or material substitution, could add to value creation and raw material safety while lowering environmental impact: an assessment of such measures in highly relevant industrial sectors was conducted by IREES on behalf of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety in 2017.
