Transformation process for the municipal energy system transformation

Transformation process for municipal energy system transformation – sector-coupled infrastructures and strategies for involving local actors

Client: Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi)

Duration: March 2020 – Juni 2023

Background

The cross-sectoral implementation of energy system transformation represents a major challenge for the coming decades. In this context, the aspects of energy efficiency, security of supply, feasibility, financeability and sector coupling must be taken into account, especially at the municipal distribution grid level with interfaces to the superordinate transport level, in order to realise synergy effects. The municipal utilities with the involvement of the customers as well as local politics and market participants play a central role here.
