Project Completion Path2LC

PATH2LC is the name of the HORIZON2020 project coordinated by IREES GmbH, which started in September 2020 and is officially coming to an end today.

The project follows the approach of a so-called ‘learning network’, the idea behind it: Different municipalities often face the same energy challenges that need to be solved. But does each municipality have to work on these issues alone or can a collaborative approach give constructive support? In PATH2LC, we brought networks in five European countries together so that they could learn from each other’s experiences and thus accelerate the transformation of their energy systems.

And what are the results? The participating municipalities and networks stated that they have found the approach very helpful, but at the same time mentioned the difficulty of staff shortages which made continuous exchange challenging. During the three years of the project, we saved around 106 gigawatt hours of energy, which corresponds to the annual energy consumption of around 4,500 German households.

The project was accompanied by our scientific partner institutions e-think, Vienna University of Technology, Energy Cities and Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI, our local partners UCSA, ALTE69, OesteSustentável – Agência Regional de Energia e Ambiente do Oeste – Regional Energy and Env . Agency, CNNL and SCN as well as the communication partner Hespul.

We thank the project consortium for the last 3 years and look forward to a follow-up project!
