Welcome Lilly!

⚡ Blitz interview with our new colleague Lilly Schell, who has been strengthening our “Sustainable Buildings and Energy Infrastructures” team since August 1:

🔍 1. Could you briefly introduce yourself?

Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself! I studied Geography, first at the University of Bonn and later completed my Master’s degree at the University of Würzburg. My main areas of focus were climatology, remote sensing, and the modelling of environmental changes.

After completing my Master’s thesis, I worked as a research assistant at the Earth Observation Research Cluster at the University of Würzburg, where I further explored topics such as biodiversity, land use, and sustainable environmental management.

I recently joined IREES as a Junior Researcher, and I’m excited to bring my methodological experience into a new professional context. In my free time, I enjoy spending time outdoors — preferably cycling.

❓2. What particularly attracted you to IREES?

What particularly attracted me to IREES is the combination of scientific and analytical work with concrete, practice-oriented questions. It is important to me to work on topics that contribute to sustainability and climate protection and whose results can also be applied in practice.

I also find IREES’s interdisciplinary approach very exciting. The projects bring together different professional perspectives, methods, and research questions. This allows me to contribute my previous experience in spatial analysis and modelling while at the same time developing my skills in exciting and future-oriented fields.

🚩 3. Which department do you work in, and what are your responsibilities?

I work in the “Sustainable Buildings and Energy Infrastructures” business area. My main focus is on spatial and GIS-based analyses, as well as processing and evaluating different types of data.

I am currently also contributing to projection reports that examine future developments in the building sector and their impacts on energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, I am increasingly working on modelling-related questions. The combination of data analysis and working on current energy and climate policy topics makes my work particularly varied and exciting.
