Kick-Off Smart Recycling Factory (SRF)
Kick-off for a new project – and right in the middle of circular economy practice ♻️
How do we design application-oriented research in the recycling of valuable materials? That is our question for the coming months.
This week, the face-to-face kick-off meeting for the process support for the research infrastructure of the Smart Recycling Factory (SRF) took place in Hille in the district of Minden/Lübbecke (North Rhine-Westphalia). In addition to the organisational kick-off and deeper insights into the goals of the project and the client Entsorgungswirtschaft Minden-Lübbecke (EMiL AöR), one thing in particular stood out: the very concrete, hands-on nature of the project.
The tour of the landfill and waste treatment facilities (MBA) and the visit to the site where the research infrastructure will be built clearly demonstrated what this is all about: not abstract concepts, but real material flows, real facilities and the question of how circular value creation can be implemented and further developed in practice.
The Smart Recycling Factory research infrastructure is intended to become a place for precisely this: for demonstration projects, for the joint testing of technologies, processes and business models – visible, application-oriented and in close cooperation between science, companies and start-ups.
The Climate-Neutral Industry and Companies division of IREES GmbH is actively and creatively supporting the development of the SMART RECYCLING FACTORY research infrastructure – together with colleagues from the Circular Change research department at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy gGmbH. Our focus is on creating sustainable structures, rolling out concrete projects and further developing the innovation network around the SRF in a targeted manner.
An exciting start for a project that not only thinks about the circular economy, but also puts it into practice.
Updates on the project will also be available here:
