Policy scenarios for climate protection X

Duration August 2020 – June 2023

Background
Within the framework of international, European and national climate protection policy, it is necessary to quantify at regular intervals the future development of greenhouse gas emissions and the effects of past and future political support instruments. By the means of these projections, the elements of an ambitious climate policy can be assessed. Besides meeting the EU requirements on monitoring national GHG emissions, this projection report provides reliable data and serves as discussion basis for national energy and climate policy.
Goals
With the help of sector-specific energy system models, the development of greenhouse gas emissions in Germany until 2035 will be investigated. In the “With Existing Measures” (WEM) scenario, the impact of existing energy and climate policy is analysed whereas the “With Addtional Measures” (WAM) examined a more ambitious climate protection policy. The study covers the development of greenhouse gas emissions in the building sector, industry, agriculture, transport and the energy sector. In addition, the development of greenhouse gas emissions from land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF) will be taken into account.
