DR. JAN STEINBACH

Dr. Jan Steinbach is Managing Director of IREES GmbH – Institute for Resource Efficiency and Energy Strategies since November 2017 and also heads the business area Energy Management and Energy System Modeling. He studied industrial engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and at Maastricht University (Netherlands), majoring in energy and environmental engineering, production engineering, international economic policy, and finance and accounting. From 2009 to 2019, he worked as a research assistant and project manager at Fraunhofer ISI in the Department of Energy Policy and Energy Markets. Jan Steinbach received his PhD from the Faculty of Economics at KIT with the topic “Model-based investigation of policy instruments to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency in the building sector” in June 2015. From September to December 2012, he was a research fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California (USA). From 2015 to 2017, he was a lecturer at Karlshochschule International University. Jan Steinbach is an expert on heat supply and energy efficiency in buildings and industry and advises the German government and the European Commission on these topics.

Since 2020, Jan Steinbach has also been a member of the advisory board of Klimaschutz-Unternehmen e.V.
