Transformation Study Lausitz
The demonstrations against the further mining and use of lignite and the occupation of Lützerath show how much people are concerned about climate change and the transformation of the energy system. It is clear that coal has no future in Germany. However, much of the waste heat generated by coal-fired power generation is used in the coalfields to supply heat to local buildings via district heating. Intelligent concepts for heat transformation are therefore needed for the end of lignite use. We were in the Lausitz lignite mining region today to make our contribution to this. With solutions in our luggage for the advisory board meeting of our project “Transformation Study Lausitz”. We are working on this project until the end of May together with our colleagues from Fraunhofer IEG and Tilia for the municipal utilities of Hoyerswerda, Spremberg and Weißwasser. Many thanks to all participants for the constructive discussion and the will to bring about real change.
