Background
There are three important structural funding programs in Nordrhein-Westfalen: REVIER.GESTALTEN call in the Rhenish mining district, 5-location program in the Ruhr region and ERDF/JTF.NRW 2021-2027. As part of their project selection procedures, submitted projects are reviewed in the existing sustainability assessment procedures with regard to their impact on the sustainability goals. This is intended to ensure ex-ante that the projects selected for funding are in line with the overarching sustainability goals (Agenda 2030, sustainability goals of the EU, the Federal Republic of Germany and the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen). In Nordrhein-Westfalen, the state-specific sustainability postulates contained in the NRW sustainability strategy must be taken into particular consideration.
Goals and Results
The “Evaluation and further development of sustainability assessment in structural funding programs of the state Nordrhein-Westfalen” aims to develop a uniform and binding sustainability assessment that can be applied to all funding programs of transformative structural policy in NRW. The basis for this is an evaluation of the sustainability assessment procedures currently used in structural policy and an analysis of the existing DGNB and BNB standards for building construction and refurbishment as well as neighborhood development.
