Expert discussion “Status quo and future development of cooling networks”
Everyone knows about heating networks, but have you ever heard of cooling networks? ❄️
Energy efficiency with district cooling networks – impressions from last week’s expert discussion on district cooling networks in Berlin.
The Federal Environment Agency with IREES and ifeu invited experts to Berlin to discuss the status quo and development opportunities for district cooling supply in Germany.
The focus of the day was:
✅ Presentation of previous project results
✅ Practical examples of district cooling supply
✅ Discussion on the expansion of central cooling supply
✅ Discussion of necessary framework conditions for future developments
The invited experts took an in-depth look at the role of central cooling supply – a topic that is becoming increasingly important in view of the sustainable transformation of our energy supply.
Our takeaways: district cooling networks can contribute to an energy-efficient cooling supply (environmental aspects such as low primary energy and CO2 factors, as well as space savings and less noise pollution should be emphasized here), but there are still obstacles and cooling networks are not yet a standard option. However, comparative values from individual German cities and other countries show potential.
We would like to thank all participants for the valuable exchange and the exciting impulses that will further advance the development of sustainable and efficient cooling networks in urban areas.
