Welcome Antonia!
⚡ Flash interview with our new colleague Antonia Kranz, who joined our “Social Science Research on the Energy Transition” team on May 1:
❓Hi Antonia, nice to have you on board! Please introduce yourself briefly.
💡 Thank you for the opportunity to introduce yourself! I studied a two-subject Bachelor’s degree in History and Politics & Society at the University of Bonn, where I also dealt with energy policy, among other things. I then deepened my knowledge in the Master’s program “Political Science” at the same university and wrote my final thesis on “Science Collaboration between Germany and Sweden”. During my studies, I also gained practical experience at places such as the Regional Representation of the European Commission, the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA), the Center for Advanced Strategic and Integration Studies at the University of Bonn and the KfW Development Bank.
I am very happy to be part of IREES since May 2025!
❓What particularly attracted you to IREES?
💡 What particularly appealed to me about IREES was that application-oriented energy research is not only conducted from a technical perspective, but is also accompanied by answers to socially relevant questions. After all, the successful implementation of the energy transition requires not only technical implementation but also social justice and the support of society. IREES also conducts research at this interface: interdisciplinary, practical and with a view to sustainable transformation. I also find it particularly exciting that many projects are not only at national level but also at European level.
❓Which department do you work in and what are your tasks?
💡 I work as a junior scientist in the “Social Science Research on the Energy Transition” department. Here, we look at the role of people in their social environment and their various roles in the energy system. Among other things, I am currently supporting the H2 Companion project – the accompanying research for the Baden-Württemberg Green Hydrogen Model Region. The aim of the project is to gain a better understanding of the prerequisites for the development of a hydrogen economy in the region and, among other things, to investigate the target groups and stakeholders, acceptance and participation by using qualitative and quantitative methods.
Welcome to the IREES team, we look forward to working with you!
PS: Are you curious? We offer opportunities for student traineeships, internships and bachelor’s/master’s theses in the field of energy transition. More information at: https://irees.de/karriere/
