SMART RECYCLING FACTORY Research and Ideas Lab
🔄 Developing ideas for the circular economy together – and IREES is on board
At the SMART RECYCLING FACTORY’s Research Ideas Lab at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, researchers from the Campus OWL universities (Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences, Bielefeld University, Paderborn University) and industry partners came together to develop new project ideas for a circular economy.
The range of research ideas spans topics from waste stream sorting technology and approaches to circular construction to the development of innovative teaching formats, demonstrating just how diverse and yet practical the work in the region is.
Our conclusion: The innovation landscape and the motivation for collaboration in the OWL region are exceptionally strong.
The Smart Recycling Factory’s process support team, comprising the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy gGmbH and IREES GmbH, played an active role in shaping the workshop:
▪️ Keynote presentation by Dr Jan Bitter-Krahe
▪️ Facilitation of the thematic breakout sessions for idea generation – including by our colleagues Robert Maertens and Michelle Antretter
The Smart Recycling Factory creates a platform to closely integrate research, development and transfer, and to bring innovations directly into practice.
💡 Following this successful launch, the focus is now on further refining the ideas developed and translating them into concrete projects.
We look forward to the next steps!
