IREES sharing insights on hydrogen acceptance at ICEP 2025

IREES at ICEP – insights on citizen acceptance of hydrogen projects at the International Conference on Environmental Psychology in Vilnius

In the project H2-Companion, Sophie Lohmann, PhD and colleagues are tracking the evolution of public opinion about local hydrogen projects as these projects are developing – from idea to construction to reality. This setting gives us unique insights into how attitudes change while a green technology is becoming more tangible in local citizens’ lives. Brand-new data from our latest survey wave were presented to ICEP attendees last week.

๐Ÿ’ก If you couldn’t make it to Vilnius, here’s some insights from the midway point of our project:

โ–ถ๏ธ Green hydrogen is popular among local citizens in Germany.
โ–ถ๏ธ Green hydrogen is popular only as long as it’s green – people want hydrogen for its role in climate protection.
โ–ถ๏ธ Beliefs in how useful hydrogen is have decreased slightly over the past years, but local acceptance still remains high.
