IREES sharing insights on hydrogen acceptance at ICEP 2025

IREES at ICEP – insights on citizen acceptance of hydrogen projects at the International Conference on Environmental Psychology in Vilnius

In the project H2-Companion, Sophie Lohmann, PhD and colleagues are tracking the evolution of public opinion about local hydrogen projects as these projects are developing – from idea to construction to reality. This setting gives us unique insights into how attitudes change while a green technology is becoming more tangible in local citizens’ lives. Brand-new data from our latest survey wave were presented to ICEP attendees last week.

💡 If you couldn’t make it to Vilnius, here’s some insights from the midway point of our project:

▶️ Green hydrogen is popular among local citizens in Germany.
▶️ Green hydrogen is popular only as long as it’s green – people want hydrogen for its role in climate protection.
▶️ Beliefs in how useful hydrogen is have decreased slightly over the past years, but local acceptance still remains high.
