Gerald Menzler was born on 28.04.1953 in Kleinmühlingen. After studying energy technology in Leipzig, he worked for several years in a company in the chemical industry. Between 1990 and 1995 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Energy and Environmental Technology in Duisburg. Afterwards, he worked as a consultant for industrial energy supply and energy technology consulting at the Verband der Industriellen Energie- und Kraftwirtschaft (VIK) e.V. Essen until his retirement in 2018.

He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Institute for Energy and Environmental Technology in Duisburg and has contributed to the VDI guidelines of the VDI Society for Process and Chemical Engineering (VDI-GVC).
