First Franco-German Climate Protection Day 2025
In the cycle for climate and environment
The first Franco-German Climate Protection Day in Obernai, Alsace, organized by Klimaschutz-Unternehmen e. V. in cooperation with Hager Group, focused on dialogue about corporate climate protection strategies. Around 200 participants from Germany and France took the opportunity to exchange views on key challenges of the transformation and possible solutions in various formats – from specialist presentations to workshops.
Dr. Jan Steinbach and Jana Deurer were on site for IREES.
In her presentation, Jana Deurer shed light on how climate management can be anchored as a strategic instrument within a company. As an example, she presented the draft of a guideline for climate management in companies, which is currently being developed on behalf of the Federal Environment Agency – German Environment Agency together with FfE, GUTcert GmbH and IREES.
🎯 The aim of the guide is to provide
companies with structured and practical guidance on how to systematically integrate climate management into existing processes.
🔍 The link between climate protection and climate adaptation is central to this:
🌿 Climate protection aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions – e.g. by switching energy sources, identifying & implementing measures as part of reduction pathways and efficient processes.
☀️Klimaanpassung focuses on the increasing risks of climate change – such as heat, extreme weather or supply disruptions – and on measures to make companies more resilient.
The event in Obernai provided important impetus from the field – in particular on how climate management can be practiced and further developed in different corporate contexts. In the discussions, it became clear that, in addition to internal acceptance, the need for practical examples, comprehensible methodology and guidance on technical issues – such as emission factors or testing processes – plays an important role.
