Nico Ulmer works as a project manager at IREES in the field of social science evaluation of energy projects. During his bachelor’s degree in Energy and Resource Management (B.A.), he completed a semester abroad at the Environmental Management Department of the City of Cape Town in South Africa. In his master’s degree he specialized in renewable energy management (M.Sc.). His master’s thesis dealt with the opportunities and barriers of renewable energies for developing countries.
As part of his dissertation, Mr. Ulmer lived at the NM AIST University in Arusha, Tanzania, and researched sustainability communication in the African educational context. While abroad, he worked as a consultant in the field of electricity and water purification in the East African context. Before working at IREES, he was employed as a research assistant at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, specifically in the Research and Transfer Center for Sustainability and Climate Change Management. He is fluent in German, English and Swahili.
