Creation of a practical guide to communication in energy consulting

Duration  March 2026 – September 2026

Background

The energy transition is central to climate protection, security of supply and the economy. The building sector plays a key role, as it consumes a lot of energy, makes heavy use of fossil fuels and has a large renovation backlog. Renovations are often postponed. The reasons for this are high costs, complex specifications, differing interests among owners’ associations and political uncertainties. Energy consulting is therefore crucial: it analyses weak points, develops renovation strategies and supports owners in their decisions. Technical support instruments alone are not enough; communication skills are just as important in building motivation, trust and acceptance for renovations and accelerating the energy transition in the building sector.

Goals and Results

The focus is on developing a comprehensible practical guide that translates the complex technical and financial aspects of energy-efficient renovation into practice-oriented formats in order to support advisory work and systematically provide skills for conducting discussions. The aim of the guide is to help advisors facilitate the decision-making processes of property owners and build acceptance for renovation measures. This includes both moderating discussions within heterogeneous homeowners’ associations and clearly communicating subsidy conditions, savings potential and relevant legal frameworks. At the same time, the measures in the guide are intended to reduce uncertainty among those seeking advice, which often arises from conflicting information or fear of making the wrong decision. In addition, successful practical examples are included that show how consultations can be successful and which strategies have proven themselves in practice. In this way, a tool is created that not only provides consultants with technical information, but also provides concrete methods, communication strategies and tools to effectively support the implementation of energy-efficient renovations and promote informed decisions on the part of owners.
