Municipal heat planning for the city of Frankfurt am Main
Client: City of Frankfurt am Main
Duration: February 2025 – February 2026
Background
The city of Frankfurt am Main has set ambitious climate targets and is now actively tackling the future of the city’s heat supply with municipal heat planning. The action plan and proposed measures developed in the heat planning process will form the basis for a greenhouse gas-neutral building stock and a greenhouse gas-neutral heat supply in Frankfurt am Main. The strategy is intended to show how a climate-neutral, reliable, affordable and therefore also economical and socially acceptable heat supply can look like for Frankfurt’s future.

Goals and Results
To achieve these goals, an action plan with potential implementation measures will be developed as part of the overall heating transition strategy. These include concrete technology solution suggestions to derive short, medium and long-term measures for the heat transition strategy. In addition, a continuation strategy with a controlling concept is then developed to better enable the implementation of the measures in practice. Another important component of a successful heat strategy is communication, which is why stakeholder management and a communication strategy also play a central role in this project. In this context, target group-specific communication formats are developed, stakeholders are consulted, and events are held for the public.
